• Hi Guest,

We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.

Recruiting??

I know where you're at cuz of our coach bailing last season...good luck....hope you don't lose the commits you have....will be an interesting season coming up...

7'0'' center transfer out of Tennessee. Listed as a 3* recruit out of HS. Looks like a raw talent wit 4 years to play.

I've watched 3 different clips of his HS play. He reminds me a great deal of Joel Bolomboy at the same age. He is a raw talent who has a high ceiling. The difference between Joel and him is that he is two or three inches taller. With four years to play, he can develop into a real monster. He seems to have the motivation to do just that. I can see Tew and Tamba working hard and making each other better.

If there is a PF out there who was worried about being moved to the center position if they signed with us, they can rest assured that won't happen. I understand that we are looking for a guard and a forward with our last two openings. I have heard that at least one of those targets is a grad transfer. As it stands, we only have one senior on the roster for next season. :coffee:

As far as comparing him to Bolomboy goes, he does have the raw talent that Bolomboy had but no Phil Beckner or Garrett Lever to make him better. And I don’t want to hear anything about Duft making Bolomboy better cuz that’s not the truth. It’s great we have all these guys but other Russell who is yet to be proven, there aren’t coaches on this staff that make players better

We just picked up walk on PG out of Texas. Abdul Beyah Jr., a 5'9'' guy who did have some D1 offers. He looks skilled and athletic, just small.

We just got a grad transfer out of Fresno State. Junior Ballard, 6'3'' combo guard. That will help even out our youth a little bit. He is known as a good defender and can score at a high level.

I watched Junior in HS at both of his schools....he was a great scorer when he played at Lathrop High....When he transferred to Modesto Christian his scoring dropped but he was no longer the only scorer on his team (Modesto Christian recruits heavily) but he was still a decent scorer....Katz was heavily involved in recruiting him at Lathrop but when he transferred he backed off a bit....Third college for him but he has been fairly productive at both Cal Poly SLO and Fresno.....

Kupsas is done. He graduated and is moving on. I actually saw him at the gym a few weeks ago. I think he is planning on living here in Ogden permanently. We still have an open spot. I would like a wing type player. One guy still in the portal that I think would fit well is Kim Aiken. He was at EWU for 3 years then transferred to Arizona for a year. He was defensive player of the year at EWU and is a solid scorer. I would love to see Aiken at SF and Jones at PF. That is 2 top level defensive players playing together. I hope Verplanken gets his waiver. I have no idea how those work or if the chances of him getting approved are good or whatever.

When seeking a waiver with the NCAA it's all about your reasons for transferring, documentation, and if the program you are leaving will back you up on those reasons. I would love to see Kim Aiken Jr come on board with us as well. However, we already have a couple of guys who are similar to him. Keep in mind that 13 guys are not going to be in our rotation, 10 or 11 max. It might not hurt to bring in anouther young gun or just leave a spot open. I'm a lot more optimistic about this years team than I was a few weeks back. :coffee:

Daniel Rouzan, 6'9'' forward out of Las Vegas has committed to us. He is a freshman that may have been under recruited. He certainly has the size and desire to develop into a solid power forward. It will be interesting to watch his development.

With this final grant now taken, it gives us 5 freshmen, 4 sophomores, 2 juniors and 2 seniors fot this coming season. We also have a walk on PG committed and I'm sure that there will be a few more walk on players.

We will be one of, if not the youngest team in the BSC this coming season. Our coaches have their work cut out for them. We have a good combination of size and athleticism, but we are short on experience. That makes predictions almost worthless at this point. We won't be picked at the top of the league, and rightly so. However, one really never knows. These guys will get a baptism by fire. Not sure if any of them will red shirt, but that could happen. :coffee:

Here is the post by Brett Hein in the Standard: Look like he has potential and like Oldrunner said, he could have been underrecruited and had a lot of big schools looking at him with offers early on.

I don't hate this new recruit, but I don't love it either. I would have loved a player with some experience. We are very young. That was always Coach Rahe's excuse those 2-3 years when we were not very good. We were always a young team and the other team was experienced. We still have a decent mix. It will be interesting to see how it all comes together.

I've seen him in person just one time, so far. What I know about him is that he is quite intelligent, speaks three languages, smiles a lot, and works hard at improving his game. What I saw was a very athletic big man, working hard to get the fundamentals and finer aspects down. He, tew and Rouzan will give us a lot of size and depth in the post. If I am comparing the three, Tamba is the most athletic, while Rouzan and Tew are more polished right now. I don't know who might start, but it gives us 15 fouls to use against another teams big men and that can't hurt. :coffee:

Here is the sum of all the pieces Bret Hein published in the Standard.
