We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

2016 Baseball

Hornet starting pitcher Matt Gorgolinski had a rough start and was knocked out after 2.1 innings after falling behind 2-0 to Nevada. The Hornet pen was excellent including getting out of 2 bases loaded jams. The Hornet bats didn't wake up until the 4th and then rocked the Wolf Pack pen for another 3 runs in the 6th to win the game 5-2 at Raley Field. Hornets move to 8-3 on the season.

Hornets are at Arizona this weekend.

Hornets had a rough weekend in Tucson and get swept by UofA.

Friday: Hornets lose 3-1.
Saturday: Hornets get destroyed 23-1.
Sunday: Hornet lose 8-4.

Tuesday: Hornets put the game away late for a 6-1 win over William Jessup.

Hornets host Cal Poly this weekend.

Is there any news on the lights at John Smith Field? Or perhaps there it but I missed it.
Still going in last I heard, probably not in time for this season however.

Hornets drop 2 of 3 at home to Cal Poly this weekend, are now 10-8 on the season.

Saturday Game 1: Hornets lose 6-4, all 6 runs given up in the 4th.
Saturday Game 2: Hornets are shut out 4-0.
Sunday: Hornets avoid the sweep in a 3-2 win.

I think the travel and rain have caught up to the team, but then CP is good too. Respectable record so far considering who they have played and where they have traveled. Sucks to have a flooded clubhouse didn't help.

Nice win against USF, who always brawls with the Hornets for some reason. Awesome way to close out the game, with a W.
Yeah USF is having a tough year (have not played a home game since their stadium is under renovation) and we still barely squeak it out 6-5 with extra inning heroics. Our bullpen has done well, but they are seeing a ton of work due to the struggles of the starting pitching.

Congrats to the Sac State 3 game sweep of our WAC foe UND. A fellow Big Sky school but not in baseball. But a sweep in any and all conferences that the Hornets are a member is great.

Great to start the WAC schedule at 3-0. Best of luck all season in the WAC which seems to have different teams every year. All good. Just win Hornets!!

Hornets sweep hapless UND this weekend to open WAC play. All the games were close, some took timely late inning hitting, but the biggest positive to take away from the series was the quality starts by the starting pitching.

Friday: Long wins a pitching duel in a 1-0 win.
Saturday Game 1: Hornets tie the game in the 8th, then win in the 11th 3-2.
Saturday Game 2: Hornets get back to back 2-out hits in the 8th the score the go ahead run. Perry closes it out for the 4-3 win.

Hornet win streak improves to 5 games and pushes their record to 14-8 (3-0 WAC). The Hornets host a tough New Mexico (15-8) for a 2 game, Monday-Tuesday midweek series.

We need for the hitting genie to appear, beating UND 1-0 is one thing, but get a good team in here like NM and they can put up some runs. Pitching seems to have settled down abit, now for the hitting to wake up.

Baseball was swept by New Mexico in the mid week series:

Monday: Hornets lose their first 1 run game of the season 1-0. Hornets had a shot with the bases juiced in the 3rd but couldn't get a key hit.
Tuesday: Hornets are routed 12-3.

Hornets fall to 14-10 (3-0 WAC) on the year and close the home-stand by hosting a struggling UNC 5-16 this weekend.

Hornets sweep a pathetic UNC and start WAC play 6-0.

Friday: A sloppy 9th in a 8-5 win lets this game look closer than it really was. Long has another solid outing and the regulars from the bullpen did well.
Saturday: Hornets dominate in a 5-1 win. Karnos had a great game and the bullpen did it's job. Hornets tacked on some runs late thanks to UNC's inability to field back to back bunts.
Sunday: Hornets secure the sweep with a 6-3 win. Kukuk got himself into some jams but pitched his way out of it. UNC added a 2 run HR in the 9th to make it look respectable.

That does it for the bottom feeders in WAC play. WAC series should be a lot tougher going forward.

Hornets lost 7-5 to Fresno State last night. Hornet bats showed some life, unfortunately the pitching staff kept giving up the long ball.

Hornets are now 17-11 and resume WAC play at Bako this weekend.

Hornets drop 2 of 3 at Bako in a rain impacted series. Bako was winless in WAC play coming into the series. Not a good week at all for the Hornets as they fall to 18-13 (7-2 WAC) on the year.

Saturday Game 1: Hornets give up 3 runs in the 7th and lose 4-3.
Saturday Game 2: Hornets get a strong showing from Kukuk and have a soldi game with the bats in a 6-3 win.
Sunday: Hornets lose 4-2. Runner get a complete game from Monarrez.

UND dropped WAC baseball today.

Lights going in The John.

Going to be playing a program in a three game series that might not be in existence by the end of the month in Chicago State.

Crazy times in the WAC.

Sorry to see North Dakota dropping baseball and men's golf. And read all the issues with Chicago State. Very .
sad,

Sac State has not dropped a sport in probably 30 years. We used to have wrestling, swimming and diving,
women's field hockey and even fencing. Those sports did not make the transition to Div I. Believe we have far and away the most athletic teams compared to our Big Sky affiliates. We have all the Big Sky Sports (not all BSC schools do ) and have men's soccer and sand volleyball in the Big West, gymnastics in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, women's crew in the American Athletic Conference, and baseball in the Western Athletic Conference. Kudos for Sac State for doing what it takes to have a great athletic program in the Big Sky and then some with many other conference affiliations.
That does matter and Sac State has been successful.

And congrats to our Hornet baseball team for winning at the University of Nevada yesterday 7-2. Nice to beat Reno in any and all sports as a long time rival that goes back 7 decades in competing against the Hornets in all sports in many conferences and divisions since 1947.

As jp mentioned, Hornets got the win at Nevada yesterday 7-2. Great outting for Olsen who handed it to the pen and they did their thing. The Hornets bats were lively as well. The win pushes the record to 19-13 on the year as a weak Chi State team comes to town this weekend.

NMSU is looking like they are in talks with the BSC. What impact this has on baseball is anyone's guess, but it looks like the WAC is finally on it's death bed.
