Christiansen announces incoming recruits: 10 JC transfers, 5 high school recruits.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State baseball team welcomes 15 newcomers to the program during the fall semester. The Hornets begin fall practice on Thursday, opening preparation for the 2016 seasons in which they will look to win their third WAC title in the last five years.

"I look forward to the fall every year; it's a fresh start with a new group but with the same goal of advancing to the NCAA Tournament," Sacramento State head coach Reggie Christiansen said. "The next six weeks will give us a chance to observe, evaluate, and develop the roster.

"This is by far the most physical looking group in uniform in my eight years at Sacramento State, but that certainly doesn't equate to being a good baseball player or team by any stretch. We did make an effort to improve the athleticism on our roster and I credit Coach Angier and Coach Holm for bringing in such a physical group."

Last I heard lights are scheduled to be up and running in time for the home game against Fresno State.

So Gonzo initiated the Union/Well expansion fee, but didn't have the balls to go all the way with the events center fee. :eek:hno:

The 2016 schedule is out. Some tough games right from the get go.

Also Christiansen's 2015 recruit class got an honorable mention among the top recruit classes of the year. We'll see how this shapes up. Looking forward to baseball keeping its solid run going.

Great to have lights coming for baseball. It's gonna be great.

Wonder why the student union needs to be expanded yet again as it has already doubled in size since it was build in the mid 1970s. Wish that expansion money was being put towards an event center. What does the student union need that it does not already have?

The April 27 game against Fresno is at Raley, however all the home games after that have a start time as TBA. I'm guess the start time all depends on whether the lights get installed by then. Looking forward to attending the first night game at The John.

The Union was out of capacity when I was a student a decade ago. An expansion is needed, and will be put to good use. There have been minor renovations to the Union over the past few years, but that doesn't create more space for student use.

University Union Renovation and Expansion, Phase I PWCE $41,215,000
California State University, Sacramento wishes to proceed with the design and construction of
the first phase of a University Union (#40) renovation and expansion project to meet the high
demand for informal recreation space, student offices, group meeting rooms, special event space,
and casual seating. A future second phase will add a satellite ballroom to the Union complex.
The Phase I project will demolish 18,193 GSF and remodel 11,347 GSF in the existing
University Union and construct 72,629 GSF of new space. The project will build medium and
large sized meeting space and food service storage; expand food service and casual seating; and
construct office space for both Associated Students Business offices and Student Government
offices. The project scope includes the renovation of the coffee shop, meeting rooms, informal
space, and student activities offices.
The project will be financed from the CSU Systemwide Revenue Bond program. The bonds will
be repaid from University Union fees, approved by the university president per Executive Order
1054 on April 23, 2015 via the Alternative Consultation Process.
 
It was a beautiful student union when it was built almost 40 years ago and expanded into an even more beautiful union. The enrollment of Sac State was about 20 to 25K back in those days and has now hit 30K.

Wish the event center was being expanded but there has never been an event center in the 68 year history of Sac State to expand. Someday.

Always glad to see new buildings going up and improvements to existing facilities.

And speaking of facilities it was fun to watch another FCS game on ESPN here in Northern CA last night. It was a home game at Southeast Louisiana University playing Lamar. A Southland Conference game. The SLU football stadium looked so much like Hornet Stadium. However, the seating looked permanent, no track and a huge video board. Again, someday....
 
Looking forward to another year of Hornet hardball. Coach C always has a talented, capable squad so it should be entertaining. Any new news on the lights?

I've heard nothing as far as when they will be put in, however talk is still that they are going in.

Friday: Hornets drop the season opener at Auburn 10-5.

Saturday: Then the Hornets bounce back and rally with a 4 run 8th to beat Auburn 6-5. :clap:

Congrats to our Hornet baseball team who is among our many sports teams that takes on all comers and comes out on top as a Div I school just like those in the SEC.

Way to rally for the win in front of 3,400 Tiger fans.

Sunday: Hornets get 2 in the 8th to force extras then win it in 12, 7-6 to take the series at Auburn. :shock: :lol: :clap:
 
Hornets knocked off Northwestern State on Wednesday 4-2. The Tuesday game was rained out. Hornets wrap up the road trip at #5 LSU this weekend. All games are on WatchESPN.
 
Congrats to the Hornets today coming back and rallying late to down LSU as the Hornet offense came thru late after the Sac State pitching shut the Tigers down early.

And in front of 11,000 Tiger fans. Amazing. And more amazing after coming back today after the Tigers shut down the Hornets yesterday in front of 10,000.

Best of luck tomorrow to our Sac State baseball team that has had an amazing journey to the south to begin the season.

Friday: Hornets lose at LSU 6-0. Long gave up one earned run in 5.2 innings but LSU took advantage of 4 Hornet errors.
Saturday: Hornets get 2 runs in the 9th to shock LSU with a 5-4 win.
Sunday: Hornets get rolled 11-1.

A 4-3 start is pretty good considering the schedule. Hell of a win against top ranked LSU. :clap:
 
Hornets get in the home opener against the Rabbits of South Dakota State before the rains came down and the series resumed in Stockton today on a dryer field at SJD CC and the Hornets win again to move to 6-3 play one more against the Rabbits at Raley Field tomorrow before taking on Nevada in downtown Sac on Wednesday. Love how this program does what it takes and has the support of the area baseball facilities and their folks to make this all happen. Nice to work together in providing our outstanding baseball program a dry place to play when it becomes too wet at John Smith Field on campus
 
Rain has reeked havoc on the series with SDSU.
Friday: Hornets open the series with a 10-7 win. Rain cancelled the 2nd game of the double header.
Saturday: Rained out.
Sunday: Game was moved to Delta College in Stockton due to field conditions. Hornets rolled SDSU 11-3.

Hornets are going to try to wrap up the series on Monday night at Raley Field.

Monday's game at Raley was cancelled due to rain.
Tuesday: Hornets roll SDSU 4-0 in the final game of the series.
 
Congrats to the Hornets for another home win against Nevada today in downtown Sac.

8 wins out of 11 so far to start the season.
