• Hi Guest,

We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.

Prez. Wood has his Spring address coming up. Wonder if this topic will be announced then, he said after the first of the new year an announcement would be made.

There must be something going on at the stadium this summer. The USA Track and Field Master's National Championships was scheduled this July and now it's been moved to American River College.

Things are happening!

Definitely frustrated with the lack of messaging and information from the admin and AD.

I submitted a formal freedom of information act request for any plans, budget proposals, and communications related to facility improvements at Hornet Stadium, the WELL or other locations.

What are the time requirements for a response to a FOIA request?

Got a response. I was told my request was too broad, but did get some spreadsheets sent my way for the WELL Conversion. They are projecting a $660,000 cost for the temporary conversion of the space for basketball season (it sounds like this will go up and down between seasons). They don't have drawings for football or basketball methinks....

I can send the docs to anyone, but here's what you can expect in the WELL for hoops next year.

Capacity - 2,260 seats, possibly 2,860 is newly ordered seats come in on time.
Temporary Bleacher Rental - $175,000 for temporary seating from https://revelxp.com/
Court Floor - $50,000 Rental Floor
Lighting - $30,000 in additional permanent lighting
PA System - $5,000 Rental
Restrooms - $50,000 portables
Concessions - food trucks
Scoreboard - Possibly considering buying second one like the Nest has now, $600,000

Not... great.

Hobo cheap.
Why do they need 2,600 seats? Cant get 800 to a game now. No improvement forecasted in the immediate future.

Stadium renovation is/was BS, new President will say anything until the puppet masters come out of the ooze.

I think it was a knee jerk reaction to MWC exploring interest if the bottom fell out of their league. Looks stabilized now, so time for Sac to sink back in the shadows.

Rental/temporary ought to be the new mascot.

Interesting. That totals up to $910k. Wonder where the rest of the $5.2M is going, or are they just pricing out the rental costs over the next half decade?

My hopes haven't been high on this idea, but I thought it would be a better setup that the Nest, based on this first glance I'm not so sure that will be the case. If this setup is torn down and rebuilt every season, how is this venue sold to recruits? Not sure where they would hang another Nest-like scoreboard in the Well, but safe to say if they pull the trigger on that it won't get installed in time for next season. A indoor/outdoor logistical setup is downright comical. Looking at floor plans of the Well, I was wondering how the fan entrance/egress and concessions/bathrooms were going to pan out...and it looks like they deferred to football ops to cover that aspect. This could turn out to be a total mess. :?

SD, good catch on your review of the Task Order I sent over. I’d missed that there’s a $5.3M total project cost for this effort.

The agreement with Otto Construction includes $299k in pre-construction costs.

The team may play in the WELL next season, but probably a good bet it’s a multiyear timeline for whatever it will end up being.

Thanks for sending them over. A lot can get done for $5M, but the lack of detail/info for gameday logistics scare me. Sure there will be bleachers and court amenities (scoreboards, PA system, floors, etc) but will the $5M cover renovations of the Well to include locker rooms, concessions, expanded bathrooms? No way does exterior portable bathrooms and food trucks fly for a winter sport.

For reference, here is a link to the ground level Well floor plan and a photo below. Note that the link does not show the Well expansion that was recently completed. I'm thinking the service area or the new space west of the gym area will be renovated to handle locker rooms. Not sure why the existing bathrooms in the Well will not be available considering they are across the hallway.

Seems like a poor decision to dump money into the Well if this is all they can do. Paying rental fees every year is just flushing money. Portable bathrooms? How can they possibly think this improves the ability to recruit? If you have retractable seating and have to share with intramurals you do not have an event center. We will still have the worst facility in the Big Sky and really any D1 team on the west coast. Idaho has a beautiful new arena. At the very least we should be able to pull off what Portland State did. Take the $5 million and start renovating the other gym at Yosemite. They have the plans in place. Just need to commit to that. If not partner up with Sky River and play in their soon to be new event center. Getting students to the games is a bad excuse as we could not possibly get fewer students there then are attending this season. I am sure Sky River would send buses to campus on game day.

Temporary measures are definitely not the way to go.

But pushing a rental idea with a casino 20 miles away from campus is even crazier. Stop it with the nonsense.

Spot on. Hard pass on playing at a casino 20 minutes from campus. The optics of sending buses with students to a casino is just terrible, I'd take the decerped Nest over that option. G1 Center is the only place worthy of moving home games off of campus for.

If executed properly, the Well will be a significant step up from the Nest but it doesn't alleviate the need for a true 5k+ capacity events center on campus.

Nevada Reno is planning to move to an off campus new casino arena at the Atlantis Casino and they already have an event center on campus. I guess an off campus casino arena is good enough for UNR but we can make do with a makeshift on campus gym. G1 Center will never work. Too expensive, parking cost more than current tickets at the Nest, students can’t get in free. Way more students and fans would go to an event center at Sky River, but it won’t happen because the administration has no creativity or vision and can’t think outside the box.

UNR being content with the option they’ve chosen doesn’t in any way qualify it as a better decision or path forward.

If someone said “I guess a makeshift on-campus gym is good enough for Sac State”, would that be valid justification for some other college program making the same choice?

You’ve not provided a counter argument at all.

Dr. Nelsen’s former school getting more done than we can and they haven’t even played a game yet.

Par for the course for this university/program, unfortunately.

I surely hope this new President will find a way to change the status quo, but thus far he hasn't inspired much confidence from my POV.

The new president has done wonders, he got a boxing club started and is single handedly turning Sac State in a HBCU of the West!

Sac State is a HBCU. Yes. That's exactly the reason why there is no events center or new stadium. Once they got a black president all the facilities went away. Too many black students keeps the facilities away. Once that black student population goes from 6% to 7%, it's all over. No longer a real school.

What a joke.

Sac State will never be a HBCU. Having a black president pushing his diploma on black History is fine. I could care less.
The university has nursing, business, engineering, art, and many other majors that are more important to the community.
Might be the first history major to become a university president? I hope he is hugely successful. Happy for him and his brothers success.
He has a chance to try and copy what San Diego State did with athletics. Or he will turn out to be All talk and No Action DUD of a president. Which would stink for us fans.

Must not be paying attention.....Wood wants to initiate the first Black Honors Program in the nation. All energy, free discretionary funds and reverse discrimination is being poured into this personal goal of his. Let that sink in, no other university in the country has such a program, why not?

If Nelson came in and wanted to create the first Caucasian Honors Program or Gonzalez created the first Hispanic Honors Program all hell would have broken loose.

Kalifornia is about to award 2 million blacks who were never slaves, reparations. Let that sink in twice, as tax payers enjoy paying that bogus award.

This topic has absolutely nothing to do with a stadium or arena, obvious you cant recognize sarcasm and why these two buildings have or never will be built.

This topic is is about a stadium. The forum is about sports. You keep bringing up race and your politics though. So if you feel President Wood is a bad person for talking about race and forcing his views, you're no better.
