2023 Playoffs - 2nd Round: Sac State at South Dakota

Welp. Running into a crowd is certainly a game plan. Bobby Fresques had one good game but immediately put his players in position to fail the next week. At least in the first half.

Even an average coach would know that Sac State’s advantage is space and speed. Having your small QB running between the lines is the opposite of that. This man is laughable.

Offense put up a goose egg in the first.

Defense holding strong by can’t get off the field in the third. Consistently playing Juniel who’s at best is 5’9 against the other team’s big receiver is certainly a choice.

Given our injuries Dillon is by far our best cover corner. Don’t know who else you want out there.

Aren’t we playing Verder who’s 6’3? Then why not match him up?

This is better. Space and speed. Thank you

I repeat. Space and speed.

Falling apart. DB depth showing. Team missing assignments. Maybe an onside kick or two this game. There’s nothing to lose.

Does Andy Thompson have that in him or just straight up and hope his depleted defense gets stops?

Might be the first time I’ve seen two end arounds and a reverse flea flicker during a three play sequence.

When we asked for unpredictable play calling. That’s not what we meant lol

Over complicated bullshit that your own team is confused by.

Defense got the stop we needed! Bobby Fresques. Pleaseeeeeeee

As expected. He did not deliver

Let’s try this again. Andy Thompson’s defense gets off the field. Bobby Fresques, for crying out loud, get this offense in a rhythm

He could have ran the ball in the third quarter. He didn’t. Now we can’t.

Gotta onside kick here.

This program was built on offense and Andy Thompson’s defense has always been bend but don’t break. But it does break. If we don’t have the offense to back it up, then we’re a mediocre/above average program at best going forward.

Just extremely disappointing that we couldn’t built on the momentum of the past 3-4 years.

ONLY silver lining this year is “doubling” the playoffs wins. But that’s merely due to the fact that we didn’t get a seed this year and had to play in the first round.

Everything else (especially getting embarrassed by Davis), just felt off, even with the “8 wins + Stanford W”. With a good chunk of the players returning, this felt like a wasted opportunity. We’re talking All-Americans and All-Conference players. I just never felt like this team have had a “complete game” all year besides Stanford. Dominating in all 3 phases. I attribute this to coaching.

Amazing recruiting class coming this Fall. Hopefully, we can get some linemen added to the class. Always a struggle at this level get playmakers there. Hope Thompson and co reevaluate and reflect and come back stronger next year!
