• Hi Guest,

We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.

2016 Baseball

Good to see the Hornets pull out the win against Chicago State in the first game of 3 at home.

was worried when I left work seeing the Hornets down 2-0 in the middle of the game with Sam Long on the mound.

Then got home to see the Hornets win 5-4.

Good luck tomorrow and Sunday against the Cougars from the Windy City

10-0 today against the Chicago State WAC foes. Sweet. Sweep tomorrow hopefully.

Looking forward to what is happening at NMSU with the Big Sky.

Hornets complete sweep of Chicago State on an amazing warm and sunny spring day in front of 500.

Best of luck in all the away games now up for Sac State until coming back home in early May.

Hornets take care of a weak opponent at the John. The sweep of Chi State improves the Hornets to 22-13 (10-2 WAC).

Friday: Hornets win 5-4. Long gets the win with a solid outing. Chi State adds a couple in the 8th to make it close, but the Hornet pen closes the door. Beardsley gets his 7th save.
Saturday: Hornets dominate in a 10-0 mercy rule shortened win. Karnos gets 8 shutout innings while the Hornet bats light it up, McWilliam goes deep twice.
Sunday: Kukuk gives up 1 run over a solid 7 innings in a 4-1 win. Hornet pen does its thing and Beardsley gets save 8. Hornet bats stay hot.

Hornets have a midweek game at Pacific then hit the road to face a tough UTRGV (17-14, 6-3 WAC) that is 14-5 at home this season.

Hornets go 2-2 on this week's road trip and are 24-15, 12-3 WAC.

Tuesday: Hornets fall 6-3 at Pacific. Hornet pen couldn't hold a narrow lead.

Friday: Hornets lose at UTRGV 3-2. Hornet pen wastes a great outing from Sam Long and the game tying run was thrown out at the plate to end the game.
Saturday Game 1: Hornets roll in a 12-3 win. Karnos has a solid outing only giving up 1 earned over 7 innings and the Hornet bats were on.
Saturday Game 2/Sunday: Hornets win an extra-inning, rain delayed game in the 15th, 5-3. Hornets took a lead in the 13th but loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom half...then rain intervened and postponed play until today. Hornets gave up the tie but win the game in the 15th in large part to a UTRGV throwing error.

BTW, some of the lights are up so this really is happening.

Wednesday: Hornets steal a win from Fresno at Raley 5-4 in 11. Olsen gave 6 innings of shutout ball. The Hornet pen blew a 1 run lead in the 8th but the Hornets battled back and tied it with 2 in the 9th. The Hornets squeeze one across in the 11th on a bases loaded infield hit by Pollman.

BTW the lights are in. Here is a pic.

sweet win over the Mountain West Conference Fresno State Bulldogs by the Western Athletic Conference Hornets in downtown Sacramento tonight.

25th win for Sac State this season.

And sweet photo of the lights at John Smith Field. Improvements like this to athletic facilities at Sac State are a true beautiful thing!!! And lights for Sac State baseball transforms the program tremendously in so many ways. Night baseball games at Sac State after 69 years is now a reality for the university.

A great night for the Hornets and the athletic program !!!

Huge bummer at NMSU.

And a loss at Davis yesterday.

Time for the Hornets to turn it around.

An ugly spring weekend for Sac State sports.

Softball swept at Weber State to fall out of first place.

Track goes down to Davis in the annual duel meet and gives up the annual Causeway all sports cup to the Ags yet again.

Tennis teams do not make the Big Sky championship finals in years.

The men's golf team comes up short in the Big Sky finals after leading until the last day.

It happens. Now that this ugly weekend is over.

Trust the baseball team will re group

Trust the softball team will finish strong against Portland State at home and fight in the Big Sky tourney.

Trust the track team will do well in the Big Sky championships.

And we also have crew to bring it home in the AAC championships

All before the long summer break.

Go Hornets!!!

Received a serious ass whippin' at NMSU and got swept. We now know who is in first place without a doubt.
I leave the country for a week and baseball goes in the tank. :eek:hno:

What a very disappointing way to close out the season. Seems like the team is self imploding at the end.
Yeah they are in a serious slump right now. Bear in mind that the Hornet schedule was stacked with the bottom feeders to start WAC play, now they are playing the real contenders and finding out that they are out matched. The bigger issue/fear is that Christiansen took a page out of John Smith's philosophy and went mostly JC guys in the last recruiting class...and having similar results. :?

Friday: Hornets snap a 4 game losing streak and roll UVU 8-0. Karnos throws a complete game shutout.
Saturday: Hornets no-show and are rolled 5-0.
Sunday: Hornets give up 3 solor HRs in the 6th and their bats can't answer in a 3-2 loss.

Hornets are now 26-21 (13-8 WAC) on the season and will have a tough time getting to 30 wins this season with a tough schedule remaining. a rematach against the dungpilers in the midweek game before heading to face a brutal GCU team in Phoenix.

Another down week for Hornet baseball.
Tuesday: Hornets have an embarrassing loss to the dungpilers 7-1. :eek:hno:
Friday: Karnos give up 1 run in 8 innings in a in 4-1 win at Grand Canyon.
Saturday: Hornets roll 8-3, Long has a solid outing only giving up 2 runs in 6 innings.
Sunday: Hornets can’t get the sweep and fall 4-3 in a close one.

Hornets rebounded a bit on the road and move to 28-23 (15-9 WAC) on the year. This Tuesday’s game is the first night game.

Tuesady: Olsen gave up 6 runs in his 2.2 innings of work that was too much to over come in a 9-6 loss to Pacific.

Great atmosphere last night. Not quite a capacity crowd but pretty close. It's easily the biggest student attended baseball game that I have ever been to. Hats off to the admin and everyone that got the lights in (both past and present), also hats off to all the staff that made last night an enjoyable evening. Hornet Club hospitality tent was up, KCRA was in attendance, and the pep band was even around for the pre-game festivities, plenty of promotional giveaways. Everything was done right.

Great to see what happened last night!!! Very historic

We have a true, quality Division I baseball facility at Sac State!!!

It's all about facilities at Sac State and we are getting there!!

Just great to see.

The regular season came to a disappointing end as the Hornets lost 2 of 3 to the now WAC Champs Seattle U.

Thursday: Hornets get some clutch hitting and pitching in a 6-3 win, the first under the lights.
Friday: Hornets get shut down in a 3-0 rain delayed loss.
Saturday: Seattle scores all its runs in the first 2 innings as the Hornets couldn't take advantage of some late chances in a 6-3 loss.

The Hornets finish with a disappointing 29-26 (16-11 WAC) regular season due to a horrific 4-11 run following the win over Fresno State. The Hornets will be the 4th seed in the WAC Tournament that starts Wednesday.

WAC Tournament

Game 1: Karnos gives up 6 runs in 1 inning of work, but the Hornets rally to win 8-7 behind an outstanding effort by the bullpen (Root, Perry, Beardsley). A couple of homers assisted in the comeback, Lewis had a 2 run shot and Floyd hit a go ahead 2 run homer in the 6th. First opening game win in the WACT by the Hornets since 2012. The win also gets the Hornets to 30 wins for the 4th straight year.

Game 2: Utah Valley struck early and often and knocked off CSU Bako 6-4 in the night game. Bako made things interesting late but couldn't close the gap.

Day 2 - May 26th - All games available online at wacsports.com

Game 3: #5 CSU Bako (18-36, 12-14 WAC) vs #6 Northern Colorado (16-33, 11-12 WAC) - 11:00 AM
Game 4: #2 New Mexico State (32-21, 20-7 WAC) vs #3 Utah Valley (34-21, 18-9 WAC) - 3:00 PM
Game 5: #1 Seattle U (35-19, 21-6 WAC) vs #4 Sac State (30-26, 16-11 WAC) - 7:00 PM

Day 2 - May 26th - Results

Game 3: #5 CSU Bako beats #6 Northern Colorado 11-6. Bako blew it open in the 6th with a 4 run inning. Both teams pitching struggled. UNC loaded the bases in the 9th but couldn't take advantage of it. UNC is eliminated and Bako will play the loser of one of the evening games (TBD).

Game 4: #2 New Mexico State lost to #3 Utah Valley 3-2. This was a well played game in which UVU prevent NMSU's many base runners from scoring. A late NMSU surge was not enough to overcome a 3 run 4th inning. UVU delivers the first upset in the WACT.

Game 5: #1 Seattle U beats #4 Sac State 5-4. Hornets played great for 8 innings but Beardsley collapsed in the bottom of the 9th and gave up 4 runs. Christiansen went to him in the 7th, just too much to ask of Beardsley in that situation. Hornets should have won this one.

Day 3 - May 27th - All games available online at wacsports.com

Game 6: #5 CSU Bako (18-37, 12-15 WAC) vs #2 New Mexico State (32-22, 20-8 WAC) - 11:00 AM

Game 8: #1 Seattle U (36-19, 22-6 WAC) vs #3 Utah Valley (35-21, 19-9 WAC) - 7:00 PM

Day 3 - May 27th - Results

Game 6: #5 CSU Bako lost to vs #2 New Mexico State 11-6 in a back and forth game that favored NMSU.

Game 7: #4 Sac State lost to New Mexico State 5-4. Hornets rallied a few times from small deficiets but NMSU gets a walk off win set up by a fielding error. Hornets season comes to an end.

Game 8: #1 Seattle U lost to #3 Utah Valley 11-8 in a game that wasn't close (Seattle got a couple 9th inning runs to make it look closer than it was).

Day 4 - May 28th - All games available online at wacsports.com

Game 9: #2 New Mexico State (34-22, 24-8 WAC) vs #1 Seattle U (36-20, 22-7 WAC) - 3:00 PM
