Net/Net this is all positive for the school and the football program. Regardless of his coaching experience I have to believe his track record of success on and off the field will translate into improvement. My experience in sports and the corporate world is the team has to buy in to what your selling. You have to experience small incremental wins individually that bubble up to the team holistically (position coaches responsibility). McCaffrey has been a winner at the NFL level, outside of the NFL and has raised 4 boys that are competing at the HS, Collegiate and NFL level who are all winners. Last time I checked the ability to Win is not a gift like athleticism, it’s something that is learned through trial & error, coaching and self-reflection. That tells me this guy knows how to win which you cannot teach if you have not experienced it. If there is no buy in you can't win with the talent alone (see Dallas Cowboys). The Bottom Line is the team has to be confident that they can get better through the leadership of their coaches which translates to extra effort from the players (practice, weight room, classroom, etc.), which translates to the overall performance of the team. This season UNC was in most games including Washington. They could not maintain consistency through 4 complete quarters. We could not consistently execute on offense, defense or special teams. This starts with the individual player and what's done during practice. If McCaffrey uses his experience regarding what it takes to Win along with experienced staff I can't image there would not be an improvement. Time will tell..... The bar is set pretty low currently so there is only upside for the program…

Go Bears.....
I feel that winning and losing is sometimes the difference between one or two plays in a game. I said it before and I still believe it was the crazy early morning practices that messed up the mental game of our players. It seemed that our guys mental game was out to lunch on many games that we could have won. When you are used to working the early shift it is difficult to go to work in the afternoon shift and have things run as smoothly as you are used to. The same is true when you compare having a home game vs an away game where you are not doing the same routine time after time. I know it is just a small thing, but one or two messed up plays seem to have been the difference between many of games we lost this past year. Look up the how many teams use this early morning practice schedule and check out their success.
I am excited to see how the team does next year and think coach McCaffrey was a great hire. I hope he gets lots of great players in this short recruiting time to work with and we get to see some wins back at UNC football.

Following the Bears on twitter, there seem to be all sorts of interest from High School kids in playing for UNC now. I have no clue if they are any good but it's cool to see.

Yes it was very positive, upbeat and a lot of enthusiasm. There were about 250 in attendance.

The first question was asked by a trib sports reporter. Is she staying with the trib?

I was working so I wasn't 100% hearing it all, but he really showed some passion for the city and program. I'm sold and all in on it.

Great introductory press conference. Liked how Coach McCaffrey talked about his training camp memories at the start. I just wish the streaming wouldn't have cut off during the questioning from reporters.

I enjoyed the press conference. My fingers are crossed that something special can happen for UNC. The only thing is I wish the streaming wouldn't have cut off during the question taking. It was good though that one of the first questions was about building a coaching staff, which sounds like next weeks mission.

I think there were only 2 questions so the streaming may not have cut off. Kfka asked about the type of player he is looking for and the trib asked about how this all came about.

The more this transpires, the more excited I get.

What were Dunn and Feinstein eluding to with building an athletic center, before introducing McCaffrey?

They've had plans for a new athletic center for a while now. They've been telling recruits that they have the money for it and they're just waiting on the ok to break ground on it.
It sounds like they've been selling recruits on that for at least three years now.

It's supposed to have a 10,000 ft² weight room and all kinds of other goodies.
Maybe now they'll actually get it done.

This is my understanding as well. Let's just hope it actually comes to fruition.

Also, reported salary for McCaffrey is base at $190,000.

I can't wait to see how the assistant coaching staff bit plays out. I wonder who (if any) he will keep from the current staff and who he brings in form the outside.

I'm curious about it myself. There's a couple from Valor I wouldn't mind him bringing with him.
I'm pretty sure Brandon Stokley knows a little something about route running and getting separation.
I keep hoping to hear something about an OC and DC to get an idea of what he's wanting to run.

Coach McCaffrey is the most excitement this program has had in years . I cant help but think that donations and fan support will not double. Recruiting should be huge and winning tradition hopefully returns

Troy is doing the first coaches show with Ed tonight at 6:05 on KFKA. Hopefully we will get an update on the assistant coaching search.

That was a good show, and as normal Troy asks some good questions. Coach was prettying upfront with all of the duties he has with getting a staff together, fundraising for facilities, etc. I highly recommend listening.

Great interview. I liked what he had to say and has his priorities straight with the focus on recruiting and maybe having a quiet day on the early signing period to make sure they are getting the right recruits in.

I agree, while there wasn't a lot of hard information shared it was really good to hear how involved Ed is going to be in all aspects of the sports program. I did find it interesting that he mentioned how many coaches have reached out to him looking for jobs (no less than 150). While the number may be hyperbolic, it goes to show how respected he is and it's really freaking exciting. It also sounds like he will keep some of the current staff which I think would be a good thing.
Another one of those moments that I wish I still lived in Colorado (if I didn't already have season tickets, I certainly would now).
