How will we do this season?

This is first year I really don't know how we will do. Yes, we are picked 8th in media polls and 9th in coaches poll so we are gonna be challenged. Any chance we can have a winning season? Do we have a descent offense and a questionable defense? Spring ball it was hard for me to tell who we are. Fall ball upon us so do we have some secret weapons that are gonna show up and did we pick up some studs? Don't remember how we were predicted to finish last year. Just feels like we haven't been picked to finish this low that I can remember.

There is an ELO rating predicting 5 wins.

I think 3-4 wins.

Incarnate Word - 100% loss

Boise State - Embarrassing loss

Northern Iowa - Possible win

Western Illinois - 60% chance of winning? They had the same W/L record as EWU but in a worse conference

Montana State - Loss obviously

Portland State - 50/50 they were 3-8 last season, 3-5 in conference like us

Weber State - 50/50, 4-8 last year, 3-5 in conference

Sac State - 50/50, 3-9 last year and 1-7 in conference

Montana - in Missoula, embarrassing loss

Northern Colorado - win

Cal Poly - win

So 2 wins, 5 toss ups and rest losses and 6 losses. So winning half the toss ups puts us at 4.5 total wins so 4-5 wins. Its actually better than I thought. But yea no way there will be a winning season.

I would be hopeful going into this season if the offense improves some but there is every indication it won't and will be in my mind significantly worse. New OC with ZERO experience, lost our throwing QB, lost most of our Oline, lost our all conference receiver, lost our backup QB and kick returner. There is every indication that Best will go to a more pro style offense like he has been trying to do. They only reason we stayed in games last year is because the OC opened up the play book and threw downfield more. No improvements on defense.

I think 2-3-4 wins. Who knows? I agree with most of your thoughts.

Incarnate Word - 100% loss

Boise State - Embarrassing loss

Northern Iowa - Drake coach is now the HC and will smoke the Eagles

Western Illinois - 1st win of the season

Montana State - Loss obviously

Portland State - I despise the Viks, so hoping for a win. We will know if Best is letting coaches coach by then. Eagles have an interesting staff

Weber State - Loss

Sac State - Didn't Sac pick up 25+ transfers? Coin flip

Montana - in Missoula, embarrassing loss

Northern Colorado - win Should win

Cal Poly - No idea. Coin flip

Starting with 3 road games is tragic. It's hard to believe we snatch a win in that mix. Going into your first home game 0-3 is like trying to get out of a coffin that only needs one more mail pounded in to shut.

I'm not so sure we are hopeless in conference play... many of the other teams suffer from the same ailments. But when losing is all you know early in the season, it's hard to keep players focused.

Complete savagery on the FCS subreddit

Eastern Washington

Projected Big Sky Media Poll Finish: 8th

Last Season: 4-8 (3-5, T-6th in Big Sky)

Where do I start with the Subdivision’s Fallen Giant? For a recent fan of the subdivision this may come as a massive surprise but Eastern Washington used to be a yearly national title contender, expectations were always high. The program that produced Cooper Kupp and the worst field design in all of college football is in free fall. Whether it’s the Administration openly discussing a D3 dropdown or paying $285,000 to lose to Drake, things don’t look good. They were the 2024 FCS “USC” team of the year for being the only team to score 35+ a game and somehow allow more. The definition of ugly.

Major Question: Will the defense at least make one stop this season?

We could save a lot of money by scheduling non scholarship teams and losing to them.
