Yes he is 72 years old. And he told a friend of mine in Poky this past fall that he was getting ready to retire. So if he wasn't let go then I'm sure he would have just retired this year anyway.
According to his Wiki bio, Bill turned 70 in December. And while I can't say I've discussed this with Bill, I don't get the impression he was headed toward retirement.
