“Our Subdivision”
(A song for fans who truly love NCAA Division I-AA football and hate the name Football Championship Subdivision, sung to the tune of “Subdivisions” by Rush)
New lyrics by Dom Yanchunas,
Morehead State, class of 1990
First you had that Princeton game in Jersey
That’s what started it all
The birth of college football
Way before the bureaucrats
at the N-C-Double-A
Then we saw the Seven Blocks of Granite
Vince Lombardi’s Rams
Known throughout the land
Quite a legacy, my friend,
for Division One-Double A
Phil Simms and Kurt Warner
Tony Romo and T-O
Subdivisions
In the college game
Hey what’s in a name?
Submit to FCS?
Our subdivision
We’ll decide the name
It’s still One-Double-A
To anyone who cares
Do you think Brian Westbrook says
His Villanova Wildcats are
‘Championship Subdivision’ fans?
Even Jerry Rice says ‘Booo ’
*(Walter Payton would boo, too )
Drawn by bucks they climbed up to the One-A
Boise State and Akron
Marshall sought bowl action
Nevada even made the jump
And I don’t mean U-N-L-V
We’ve still got the Grizzlies and the Blue Hens
And Appalachian State
Morehead’s always great
Next year North Dakota State
can play December ball
Name’s worked fine since ‘78
One-Double-A will never die …
* Denotes alternative lyric for Jackson State fans.
